Some people are just so sweet I think sweetness should be made illegal. That’s because there are times when being overly sweet can kill people – figuratively.
Men and women have always been different. If men are first attracted to women by their looks (nice body, nice hair, nice eyes, nice face, etc.) women are attracted to men by their personality. A lot of women are a sucker for sweet, caring guys. The types that are thoughtful and kind – the ultimate gentleman. Women just loved to be pampered and sweet guys know just how to go about doing that.
But then some guys are born or bred to be sweet all the time. It is simply part of who they are, and not a necessary indication that they are wooing some woman. And women, sad to say, are prone to misinterpreting men. Not all women can be frank and candid to approach a man head on and ask whether his sweetness is part of who he really is or it is his ploy in winning her heart. Not a lot have the courage to do that. So most women fall prey to waiting – sometimes in eternal anguish. A lot have this really caring and sweet friend who is just that – a friend.
Not that I’m saying men shouldn’t be sweet, especially if that is a natural part of their personality; just that men should be careful. If he is naturally sweet, then be sweet to everyone. Treat all women friends equally. Don’t single out someone or she is bound to assume that you have other intentions.
Women should also be cautious. Even if a man is sweet to you, that does not mean he is into you. Wait until he speaks the words out loud.
In the end, I think everyone would benefit from some simple, head-on honesty. If you like someone, say so first hand and alert the girl that everything you do will be in order to win her hand. Just like what Leopold did in the movie Kate and Leopold. He informed Kate early on of his intentions to woo her.
Simple rules. Hard to follow. How did everything get so complicated? Even relationship statuses are no longer limited to single, married, or widowed. There is already the category “it’s complicated”.
I guess, the world, and life in itself, is pretty much complicated. Darn.
